Style as Resistance: Amanda X Miltti

Style as Resistance: Amanda X Miltti

In March 2025, Miltti celebrated International Women’s Month by sharing the stories of three powerful immigrant women. These women, our customers, wear more than clothing — they wear stories of courage, transformation, and individuality.

Today, we highlight Amanda Souza, a Brazilian wedding planner living in Torino, Italy. As the only Black wedding planner in the city, Amanda’s journey is one of pride, perseverance, and the beauty of owning your identity — against all odds.

Growing Up Seen — and Unseen

Amanda moved to Italy from Brazil at just five years old. Growing up as a non-EU child of color — in her words, “a Black child among white people” — meant constantly having to prove her worth.

“Even as a child, I always had to demonstrate the importance of my presence.”

In a world where she often felt invisible, Amanda learned early that presence is power. And that power has fueled her career and her style ever since.

Facing Racism, Defying Limits

When Amanda started working professionally as a wedding planner, not everyone accepted her.

“A pastry chef once refused to collaborate with me just because I was a person of color.”

But moments like that didn’t break her. They built her.

Today, she proudly claims her space:

“I am the only Black wedding planner in Turin — and, on top of that, a Brazilian one.”

Amanda's story reminds us that being an immigrant doesn't mean you don’t belong. It means you’ve overcome more than most to be where you are.

Fashion as Resistance — and Expression

Amanda doesn’t just plan weddings. She makes statements — in style.

Fashion has always been a way to own her image and affirm her identity, especially in a world that tried to define her for her.

“Wearing something that represents me, that reflects my image, is fundamental.”

That’s why Amanda connected with Miltti’s values: fashion that celebrates real people.
Fashion that’s gender inclusive, unapologetic, and sustainably made — like Amanda’s story.

Her Message to Women Everywhere

Amanda ends her story with a message not just for immigrant women, but for all women:

“Do not give up — no matter what, no matter who — and despite all stereotypes.”

She closes with a sentence that stayed with us long after the camera stopped:

“Being an immigrant does not define me — it strengthens me.”

Final Words from Miltti

At Miltti, we don’t just celebrate fashion — we celebrate the stories behind the fabric.
